Steps of the Task

– Assemble and organize the crew.
– Conduct stretch and flex activities.
– Create and review pre-task plan with crew.
– Stage materials, tools, & equipment in work areas.
– Inspect tools & equipment and record inspections on inspection tags, (if applicable).
– Load material in lift (if applicable).
– Measure for insulation.
– Cut insulation to desired lengths.
– Install and seal insulation per manufacturer’s specifications.
– Return materials, tools & equipment to lay-down area.
– Consolidate and dispose of construction debris.
– Ensure accountability of work crew & depart jobsite.

Hazards of the Task

– Physical injuries.
– Slips, trips, & falls.
– Sprains & strains.
– Repetitive stress injuries.
– Overexertion.
– Pinch points, struck-by, & caught-in-between.
– Cuts, abrasions, & punctures.
– Debris in eyes.
– Falls from heights.
– Dropped material & tools.

Hazard Control Methods

– Be aware of your surroundings & foot placement.
– Use designated access and egress routes and gates.
– Inspect route of travel and ensure clear path.
– Keep work areas clean & stored in orderly manner.
– Conduct stretch & flex activities before and after work activities.
– Use proper lifting techniques. Know the weight of the load. Bend at the knees. Do not overexert. Do not twist while lifting or carrying loads.
– Observe overhead hazards and moving equipment.
– Wear task appropriate PPE, including ANSI cut-level 4 gloves, safety glasses or face shield.
– Use task appropriate tools.
– Store cutting tools in a sheath, case, or tool bag when not in use.
– Utilize fall protection equipment where a fall exceeds 4 feet or more.
– Develop & implement a Fall Protection Work Plan where a fall hazard exceeds 10 feet.
– Delineate or eliminate access below work area.
